Finally, for the first time ever, Canada has won an Olympic Gold Medal on home soil. Alex Bilodeau, the mogulist from Montreal, scored big in the Men’s event tonight, beating Australian Dale Bagg-Smith (of North Vancouver) and Bryon Wilson of the US.
Bolideau’s exceptional training run combined with Bagg-Smith’s average performance set the stage for a event that will be remembered for a long time. Frenchmen Guilbaut Colas went last but failed to beat Bolideau’s score and ended up finishing 6th.
Other Canadians in the final were Vincent Marquis (4th), Pierre-Alexandre Rousseau (5th) and Maxime Gingras (11th).
Dale Bagg-Smith’s story is a complicated one. He started on the Canadian Team but had a disagreement over his other business, which was concerned with the distributing of software. He eventually got fed up and went to live in Australia. Now he has come back but not with the Gold Medal he so dearly wanted.
To me it’s good riddance. But now in Bolideau and Canada’s moment so let’s not waste it.

Well, the Americans might be a tad more interested in the Americans competing at the Olympics. I’m sure the Canadian tv coverage is covering the Canadians a bit more.

Well yes but in the past Olympics NBC has always stuck with putting the American athletes in the centre, even if there is a huge event going on somewhere else. While there are some European Nations (and CBC, which used to be Canada’s Olympic Network) that have followed the Olympics on a much wider basis. Whatever the outcome, I do like NBC and Bob Costas is one of my favorite TV guys. Though don’t you think they could run some more live stuff. All these taped events make me feel sorry for you guys in the States.
